In an article relating to a case where a woman has been taken to court by her former colleague for referring to the woman as ‘rude’ in an email, Al Rowaad Advocates partner Awatif Mohammed explains the law that applies. The plaintiff claimed the word could mean ‘promiscuous’ and said she had lost her job as a result. Ms Mohammed tells Khaleej Times newspaper that any person who insults another or causes a reaction of contempt through an electronic site could be punished by imprisonment or a fine of up to Dh500,000 followed by imprisonment.
